Dedicated server FAQs, with two direct-attached NVMe drives included
Capacity or redundancy? OnuCloud starts with drive usage and explains memory tiers, deployment, reinstalls, and cost boundaries to help clarify storage plans before ordering.
Confirm drive layout and data protection first, then choose memory and network options.
Drive usage guides add-on choices
The same raw capacity can provide different usable space when drives are kept separate or mirrored. Define the roles of service volumes, cache, and backup targets first; more memory or more drives alone do not provide complete data protection.
128GB for storage services, or 256GB for VMs and ARC?
Add up the memory needed by the operating system, applications, VMs, and cache before choosing a tier. For a single file storage or backup service, 128GB DDR4-3200 ECC may be a good fit. For a Proxmox VE host running multiple VMs, or one that needs more room for ZFS ARC, consider 256GB DDR4-3200 ECC. Both tiers use an AMD EPYC 7543P with 32 cores and 64 threads, and include the same drives and bandwidth; the processor is the same. The 128GB tier is $472/month, and the 256GB tier is $624/month. More memory does not replace drive redundancy or guarantee faster performance for every workload. Memory cannot be upgraded on the same server after deployment. Changing tiers requires a separate order, with service and data migration planned independently.
Are the two included 1TB drives mirrored at deployment?
No. The standard configuration includes 2 × 1TB NVMe drives, each independently direct-attached. They do not use shared storage, and hardware RAID is not provided. Their combined advertised raw capacity is 2TB; they are not preconfigured as RAID-1. Partitioning, formatting, and filesystem overhead affect usable space. For drive redundancy, customers can configure a ZFS mirror or software RAID within the operating system. A mirror of two 1TB drives provides about 1TB of advertised usable capacity, not 2TB. Mirroring can help protect against a single-drive failure, but accidental deletion or incorrect writes may also be replicated to both drives. Separate backups and recovery testing are still essential. This direct-attached drive configuration is not a managed storage service with provider-managed arrays and backups.
How should extra drive bays be planned for a growing backup volume?
At configuration, choose no additional drives, one 2TB NVMe SSD, or two 2TB NVMe SSDs. Each additional drive costs $85/month, with a maximum of 2 extra drives. Optional drives are also independently direct-attached and are not automatically added to a hardware array. By advertised raw capacity, the three options total 2TB, 4TB, and 6TB respectively; these figures do not represent usable capacity after adding redundancy. No extra drive may suit a single service with a small dataset and backups stored elsewhere. One extra drive can separate the service volume from a local backup volume, but a single backup drive has no mirror redundancy. Two extra drives can be configured as a separate mirror pool. Define the roles of the system drive, data pool, and backup target first. Extra drives in the same server do not replace off-site backups. Drive costs are added to the monthly total and then calculated according to the selected billing period.
Check server status and system tasks separately
OnuCloud is responsible for the hardware and network; customers manage the operating system and data. Check deployment status after payment, and arrange backups before making system changes.
After payment, where can server connectivity be confirmed?
After payment, check the order and server status in the OnuCloud portal. Once the server is ready, its address and login credentials are available in the server details. Payment status, server status, and connection details should be checked separately; payment completion alone does not mean deployment is complete. Deployment time should not be inferred from this page. Linux, FreeBSD, and Proxmox VE use SSH; Windows Server uses RDP. Use the credentials shown in the portal rather than assuming that another server's username or connection settings apply. After the first login, verify the drives, memory, and network before deploying services and backup jobs. For questions about an order or deployment details, open a support ticket in the portal with the order number and a description of the issue. Do not include passwords, private keys, or other sensitive credentials.
Which operating systems are available, and what should be saved before a reinstall?
Choose from 14 free operating systems: AlmaLinux 8, 9, and 10; CentOS Stream 9 and 10; Debian 11, 12, and 13; Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS, 24.04 LTS, and 26.04 LTS; FreeBSD 13; and Proxmox VE 8 and 9. Windows Server 2019, 2022, and 2025 are available. Standard licensing adds $17/month, and Datacenter licensing adds $27/month. System languages are English, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese. Reinstall requests are handled through the portal or a support ticket. Before submitting a request, back up business data, configuration files, keys, and recovery materials outside the server. Other local partitions or mirrored drives are not substitutes for a backup. Confirm the operating system and license costs on the configuration page, and decide which version to install and what data to retain before reinstalling. Reinstallation is not a data-recovery tool.
Port speed, IP count, and billing details
Unmetered transfer does not mean unlimited speed, and adding IP addresses does not configure the network. Check speed, quantity, and billing period separately to choose an option suited to the backup window.
Does unmetered bandwidth mean all three port speeds restore data at the same rate?
No. Unmetered describes how data transfer is billed; it does not mean the port has no speed limit. The standard port is 250 Mbps. Options are 1 Gbps for an additional $249/month or 2 Gbps for an additional $741/month. None of these bandwidth options has a separate data-transfer fee; the price difference reflects the selected port speed. The standard tier may suit ongoing incremental syncs. For large restores or concurrent transfers, choose a higher bandwidth tier based on the backup window. Actual throughput also depends on the local connection, network path, remote service, protocol, and drive activity. Port speed is not a guarantee of end-to-end throughput. Consider both backup writes and restore reads rather than only the number of TB transferred each month. Higher bandwidth does not replace rate limiting and scheduling for backup jobs.
How many dedicated IPv4 addresses can be added, and which address should be used for remote access?
Each server includes 1 dedicated IPv4 address by default. Another 0–255 addresses can be added, for a maximum total of 256. Each extra address costs $2/month and is added to the monthly total. SSH and RDP both use the first address listed in the portal; other addresses can be assigned to VMs or services within the operating system as needed. Adding an address does not automatically configure networking in the operating system or increase the dedicated server's port bandwidth. For multiple fixed egress or service addresses, map each address to its intended VM or service before selecting the number of additional addresses. When troubleshooting a connection, check the first address, portal credentials, and operating system firewall rules before trying extra addresses that have not been configured. Address assignments and service access policies are managed in the customer's operating system configuration.
How are refund requests and billing questions handled?
Refunds are handled under the OnuCloud Terms of Service. This page does not set a refund percentage, calculation formula, or processing timeframe. To submit a request, open a support ticket in the portal with the order number, relevant bill, and reason. For hardware or network issues, include a description of what happened and any relevant troubleshooting results. Do not send passwords or other sensitive information. AMD dedicated servers are available with monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual billing periods. Amount due = monthly total × number of months; billing periods are not discounted. There are no setup fees or contracts. No contract does not mean prepaid fees are automatically refunded for unused days; the Terms of Service still apply. Before payment, check the server tier, add-ons, operating system licensing, and billing period. All charges are settled in USD, and available payment methods are listed on the configuration page. The outcome of a refund request is confirmed through a support ticket.

Finalize the full configuration once the drive plan is clear
The OnuCloud configuration page brings together memory, extra drives, bandwidth, IPv4 addresses, and operating system costs. For questions about an existing order, open a support ticket in the portal.
